5 crafty events not to miss this spring

Apart from the bad weather being over, here’s a few more reasons to look forward to spring. I’ve found some really good crafty events to keep you inspired – most of them free! Pick up your diary and start planning where to go, how to get there, who’s coming with you (and what to wear):

1. London Hat Week – 26 March – 1April

I got really excited when I saw this, I had a look at their calendar and immediately signed up for the London Hat Walk on 29 March – fancy joining me? You know what hat I’ll be wearing!

2. Crafty Fox Market 11-12 April (Peckham) / 25-26 April (Brixton)

I’ve been to Crafty Fox Market before and I have to say it’s a really quirky market with lots of opportunities to speak to makers, do drop-in workshops, listen to good music and of course do some uber-cool shopping!

3. London Craft Week – 6-10 May

Although I’ve known about it for a few years, I’ve never managed to go for one reason or another. This year’s programme looks very rich with workshops, tours and demonstrations, from perfume-making to tapestry weaving, so I am planning a visit this time. Fingers crossed.

If you, like me, love visiting Cornwall in May, these two events are absolutely worth a visit:

4. Invisible You. The Human Microbiome – from 22nd May at the Eden Project

A science and art exhibition funded by the Wellcome Trust, with works from the talented Rebecca Harris and her Stitching Science project.

4. Open Studios Cornwall – 23-31 May

I am a big fan of the Open Studios Cornwall, I can’t believe it was 2011 last time I went and blogged about it, it really feels like yesterday. This is best done by bicycle with a bit of planning!

Let’s see how many of these events I will actually manage to make and blog about – keep you posted!

  1. We are celebrating 25 years of making at the Arches Studios in the heart of Peckham this summer! Our Open studio is happening alongside the Dulwich Artist Open House on 8th and 9th may and 16th and 17th May.
Larobby very kindly wrote about my cartographic ceramics in a previous blog (thanks!). I’m launching my new collection of tiny porcelain globes at this event. Please drop by! Address details @ http://www.bbc.co.uk.the-arches-studios.com, and my work is at http://www.lorainerutt.net
